A New League for Knights
The Pittsburgh Knights Enter the Battleground of the Smash-Hit Battle Arena Game, Smite
(PITTSBURGH) December 5. 2018 – The Pittsburgh Knights have achieved mythical status as the newest addition to the Smite Pro League. We will be one of ten teams competing in the 2019 season, beginning on February 7th. Smite is a free-to-play multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game with characters inspired by ancient mythology.
Based in Atlanta, Georgia, the Smite Pro League will become an international league, combining both the American and European circuits. Additionally, there will be no region lock or requirement on the rosters, meaning there can be any number of people from any country on each team. Other changes to the traditional Smite Pro League format include no separation into spring, summer, and fall splits, and the switch to win/loss records being season long. Therefore, all games throughout the season will contribute to a team’s Smite World Championship placement. Also, all matches will be played live on local area network (LAN) from Atlanta’s Skillshot Media studio.
The first Smite World Championship was held in 2015 and boasted a $2.6 million prize pool. Last season’s World Championship was played at DreamHack Atlanta and was won by Splyce. 2019 will mark SPL’s 6th season and the Knights are excited to be a part of this newly formatted league. We will be playing against top esports brands like Dignitas and others, offering us a chance to flex our competitive muscles. Our finalized roster will be announced in the coming weeks.
